Author Interview: Ali Aquene
SO, Lyla has come up with an idea. She's going to start interviewing some of her writing friends from YWW (the Young Writer's Workshop). This way, you get to learn more about other young writer's like me, while I get to have so much fun interviewing them. Win-win!
Happy reading!
Tell us about yourself. How long have you been writing, and what made you want to pursue it as a career?
I’m a sixteen year old girl that lives in Texas. I’ve been writing ever since I was eight, so that means I've written for eight years. Which is kind of bizarre. I’ve always loved to create stories, writing just came with that. Becoming an author became my career I’ve wanted to pursue because God has called me to do so. I want to glorify Him, and so I want to do this for Him.
Can you tell us about your main WIP?
I’ve been working on my main WIP for two years now. The name is Missing. I’m working on the second rewrite, and I’ve had a blast! My Novel is about a young abused teen who is sent to be fostered by a country singer in Franklin, Tennessee. (Hah you thought I was going to say Nashville didn’t ya?) Anyways, this is what it’s about:
They all crave a second chance, but each carries a buried secret. Will they uncover the truth on their own, or will they need each other to unravel the past?
Yet, lurking in the distance, someone is hungry for revenge. Could one of the brothers be hiding more than just regrets? Is he truly the good man he claims to be?
Meanwhile, Judah struggles with the weight of caring for Lauren—a responsibility he took on willingly, yet seems to be failing at. His love relationship only adds to the strain, pulling his attention away and deepening the rift between them. Can he truly be there for Lauren, or will Austin be the one to see her for who she really is?
Austin seems like the perfect person—kind, dependable, and selfless. But deep down, he’s hurting, still reeling from the loss of his sister. The pain lingers beneath the surface, shaping his every decision. Will his grief push him closer to Lauren, or will it be the very thing that keeps him from truly opening his heart?
What inspires you to write? Who are some authors you look up to?
Inspiration? That all comes from God honestly. God is always putting stuff to inspire me. Such as music (FOR KING + COUNTRY) movies, books, and even random stuff that happens to me. My friends (readers) are usually the ones that keep me working on my stuff and not giving up on my projects. (Special credits to my sister Kenz and mentor Em.) Some authors I look up to are my sister (*winks*) C. S. Lewis, and Bryan Davis.
What is the craziest story you’ve written?
Phew. I don’t think I’ve written a crazy story… I am writing a Star Wars fan-fiction which is pretty crazy. Actually I think one of the crazy stories I wrote was my first one. I had put together a makeshift book and wrote about a superhero named “Slipper Girl” who had the power of slippers and was fighting against rogue toilets. Yes, that’s right. Toilets were attacking. The crazy part is, I took inspiration from Captain Underpants and that story where he fights toilets. Heh.
What would your main character think of you if they met you in real life and knew you were their author?
Oh geez. Well if my main character knew I was the one that put them through everything, I have no idea if she’d thank me or kill me. Honestly she’d probably get really upset and hurt about it all and question me and make me want to cry. *coughs*
What is your favorite non-writing hobby to do?
This is kind of crazy, but I enjoy coloring. I love singing and playing the piano. I have a lot of non-writing hobbies, and they’re REALLY fun.
If you had to choose between cookies and ice cream, what would your choice be?
Definitely cookies. I love a nice warm cookie. They’re like giving someone a hug. Man, now I want to bake some cookies with my sister when she comes and visits me.
Do you have a blog/email list/socials where we can find you online?
I do! I have Pinterest, Youtube, and a website! I’m currently working on putting together an email list, but those other ones are where you can find me! Also, you can inquire about my writing projects at my email: g.ali.aquene@gmail.com
