Author Interview: Ella Quill
Tell us about yourself. How long have you been writing, and what made you want to pursue it as a career?
I “wrote” my first book when I was five years old! I drew the pictures, dictated to my mom what each page would say, and then we stapled it together. The book was about a bunny having a birthday party. 😊 I wrote on and off for about 8 or 9 years, and then during COVID in 2019 and 2020, I completed my first novel, which was the first draft for The Hidden Haven! After I finished it, I knew that THIS is what I wanted to be: an author. So I started working hard on my writing, learning as much as I could, until The Hidden Haven was published in 2024!
Can you tell us about your main WIP
I am currently working on The Lavender Dawn Saga, a fantasy series for teens about a magical kingdom of chipmunks! The first book, The Hidden Haven, came out last year, and The Hidden Haven follows the adventure of young chipmunk Delle Lander as she is accidentally whisked away to Willow Haven, a magical tree with a hidden kingdom of chipmunks inside. Everyone there has their secrets, including Delle, but when the hidden haven is threatened to fall apart, will others look past Delle's secrets and trust her?
The second book in the series, The Journey of the Guardians, was released November 17th, 2025.
What inspires you to write? Who are some authors you look up to?
I love immersing readers into my world. When I was first writing The Lavender Dawn Saga, I had a few very good friends who would fangirl over my writing and my characters and it was the best feeling ever!
Aside from that, I write because I want to encourage readers to become the heroes of their own story. To pick themselves up, dust themselves off, square their shoulders and keep going.
Some authors I aspire to be like someday are Tolkien and Brandon Sanderson for their EPIC worldbuilding, and S. D. Smith and Jenny L. Cote for their wonderful characters!
What is the craziest story you've written?
Interesting question! This is gonna sound wild, but I have a friend group of writers, and we all write stories together about ourselves living in another world. We go on adventures together, and do crazy things. (Too crazy to be mentioned here, haha!) What is really wild is that in less than a month, together, we wrote a story that was almost 90 pages long!
What would your main character think of you if they met you in real life and knew you were their author?
Hehe, I think Delle and I would be good friends! We would probably go to the library together, pick out some books, then make some tea, have a picnic, and then read our new books together. 😂 Sounds like a lovely day to me!
What is your favorite non-writing hobby to do?
I think my favorite non-writing hobby is to knit, while listening to audiobooks! There’s something so calming and wholesome about knitting a warm scarf while it’s snowing outside, and listening to a classic Jane Austen novel. 😊 The project I am currently working on is an infinity scarf (it’s in a loop) that looks like The One Ring from The Lord of the Rings!
If you had to choose between cookies and ice cream, what would your choice be?
Cookies! I like ice cream too, but a warm chocolate chip cookie, freshly baked…there’s something about that that makes me so happy.
