Lyla Rose Writings about me image for restored 316

Hi there, and welcome to my blog!

I’m Lyla, (which I’m sure you definitely couldn’t tell).

I’m an aspiring young writer who hopes to grow this blog, start an email list, and hopefully self-publish my books one day!

Back in June of 2023, my family went to a homeschooling convention that happened annually. One of my favorite authors was hosting a writer’s workshop track, and of course, I signed up! That was my first introduction to the craft of writing. And it was there that I first heard about the Young Writer’s Workshop. That August, I joined YWW and have been a part of that community since. My writing has gone so far – and if not for YWW, I wouldn’t be here today!

Right now, I am currently going through YWW’s Academic program. I’m learning the foundations of writing, and other important basics such as character development and how to plot an outline correctly. One of our upcoming assignments will be to write (and edit!) a short story, and then pitch it to a publisher. I’m so excited! I also plan to attend a writer’s retreat this summer, where I’m hoping I will be able to “pitch” my novel to other writers who will be attending, (as further practice!).

If I could live anywhere in the world… I would stay in Montana. I would live in a little cabin up in the mountains, and on my front deck I’d have a comfy white porch swing. There would be twinkly outdoor lights hanging from the deck’s roof, and an amazing outlook, maybe even with a lake too. But, I would stay within driving distance of my church, family and friends, because I could never live without them. (Yep, I’m extroverted. And very social. I’m sure you totally couldn’t tell that either).

No, there’s no such thing as a dream that’s too big! It could happen! And if not on this earth, than maybe in heaven. (Or, you know, in my character’s world. Before it turns dystopian and the government hauls them off to whatever centers they put up. Yes, ruining our character’s lives is a writer’s greatest aspiration. Just kidding! Or am I?).

Some other fun facts about me…

  • I think writing is hard. But also worth it. So… write, read, and forever dream on!
  • The genre I write in varies, but my main WIP, (that stands for Work In Progress,) is set in a dystopian world with hopeful, Christ-centered themes.
  • I love peach frappachinos.
  • In all honesty, I have created characters… just so I could make their lives miserable… just to give them a happy ending. I know that’s really, incredibly shocking. (If you’re a writer, however… then you get this).
  • I want to be a singer when I grow up as well. I want to write, record and publish my own songs by myself… just so they can be out there.
  • My favorite singers of all time are Joel and Luke Smallbone of for KING & COUNTRY, and I will never grow tired of listening to their songs.
  • I love quoting the first and second Sonic movies for absolutely no reason.
  • My weaknesses are ice-cream and oreos. (Shh don’t tell anyone).
  • Lord of the Rings is my favorite series of all time. I’ve watched all the movies, and I’m going to start reading the books soon. (Currently, I’m reading the Silmarillion, which is supposed to be the hardest. So I figured if I could read through that, then everything else would be super easy. Hehe.)
  • “There is some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it’s worth fighting for.” ~ Samwise Gamgee

I’m so glad you read this, and I hope you’ll stick around! God bless!
